Here’s a running glossary of terms mentioned in the posts and possibly comments. It is intended only to be introductory and is by no means complete or comprehensive. Please post any errors or suggestions to the comments of this page.

  • exegesis: “Explanation, exposition (of a sentence, word, etc.); esp. the interpretation of Scripture or a Scriptural passage” (OED s.v. 1)
  • parousia: Greek παρουσία, which means either “coming” or “presence” (“being/essence” (ousia) and “alongside” (para)). In the NT, it commonly means the expected return of Christ. However, as to specifics, there is much debate. The OED says simply: “The appearance of Christ in glory at the end of time; the Second Coming.”
